Bright Okpocha, a Nigerian actor and comedian best known by his stage as Basketmouth, has apologized to AY Makun, a fellow employee, for the disagreement between the two.
There had been rumors that the comedians had broken up in love. During an AY-hosted question-and-answer session, the rumor spread widely.
The comedian hinted about the tense relationship between him and his colleague in response to a question from a fan about the “beef.”
Speaking with media personality Chude Jideonwo in March, AY disclosed that N30,000 was the reason his friendship with Basketmouth ended.
“Now, something funny occurred—one of the gigs in particular—and I got his recommendation to go stand in for him,” AY added.
We typically receive N30,000 at that time, and for me, that kind of money meant everything. With that money, I could buy a pack of noodles, a recharge card, gas for my car, and fuel for my generator. I would also take advantage of the chance to hire one or two people to do one or two skits that I could release right away. I was therefore hired for the position, but the attendees—who had come anticipating Basketmouth—were not overjoyed to see me there.
“To cut a long story short, the guy afterward expressed satisfaction with my performance, and after exchanging numbers, I left. One of Basketmouth’s guys recommended me for this assignment.
I had not received N30,000 for the past two weeks, and as a bachelor, I had nothing. I was starving. He responded that the person had not paid when I asked for N30,000.
However, Basketmouth apologized to AY and other people in the entertainment sector for “whatever” he must have done incorrectly in the past in a video posted to his social media accounts on Monday.
“To all the people in the industry and beyond,” he continued, “I have offended, intentionally or accidentally. I truly apologize and say this to you from the bottom of my heart.
And to those who have accused me of doing things that have negatively impacted their careers in any way, I will neither accept nor refute these claims. Please pardon me even though God is aware of the truth. With all my heart, I beg you.
The comedian went on to say, “Now to my guy AY, I don’t know if my apology is still legitimate at this time, but if it is, please forgive me for whatever I’ve done or said in the past that has had an impact on you in any way. I want you to know that I have forgiven you for anything, whether you did something intentionally or unintentionally. It’s gone, and I just want to live in peace with everyone.
