The Senate choice to postpone Nasir El-Rufai’s cabinet nomination confirmation has been criticized by the Council of Imams and Ulamas in Kaduna State.
Due to outstanding security checks, the Senate has decided not to confirm El-Rufai and two other cabinet nominations on Monday.
When the former governor of Kaduna arrived for screening on the Senate floor, a “strong petition” was brought up in opposition to him about safety, unity, and national cohesion.
However, the Council of Imams and Ulamas characterized the Senate’s decision as politics of vendetta and misuse of power against the former governor during a news conference yesterday in Kaduna.
The council requested the Senate to confirm El-Rufai as a minister without delay.
