Hudu Yunusa Ari, the suspended Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Adamawa State, has stated that he has no regrets in declaring Senator Aishatu Dahiru Binani the winner of the recently concluded Adamawa Governorship election.
Hudu Yunusa Ari, who talked with BBC Hausa on Tuesday, claimed he did not regret announcing the results and denied getting a 2 billion Naira bribe.
He said that the law gave him the authority to declare the outcome and that he was willing to hand himself over to the Nigeria Police, who had invited him.
DAILY POST remembers Ari declaring the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in Adamawa State as the winner of the governorship election while results from the state’s local government units were still being tallied.
The proclaimed result, however, was immediately nullified and the announcement was postponed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
After distancing itself from Ari’s acts, the electoral umpire called him to the INEC headquarters in Abuja. However, there were allegations that Ari vanished off the radar and had not been seen since the historic episode.
