An outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB)/Eastern Security Network (ESN) enclave was demolished in Asaba, Delta, by Nigerian Army and State Security Services (SSS) personnel.
According to a statement from the Army Public Relations Director, Onyema Nwachukwu, the raid was carried out on Saturday during a clearance operation by members of the SSS and the 63 Brigade Garrison, which is a part of the 6 Division.
According to Mr. Nwachukwu, the operation was a part of the ongoing campaign to purge Nigeria of crime.
He claimed that in the early hours of Saturday, the military launched a raid operation against the fortified outpost that was situated in the middle of a forest.
In the exchange of fire that ensued after the encounter, he said that the military outnumbered the IPOB members, forcing them to flee their hiding place in chaos.
One of the escaping combatants was apprehended by the troops, who also found five AK-47 rifles, three pump action semi-automatic rifles, one G3 rifle, and a single barrel pistol.
Live cartridges, an electric saw, machetes, an axe, and an IPOB flag are among the additional items found.
The enclave has been destroyed, and the forces are using the forest to their advantage as they pursue the evading combatants.Maj.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff, praised the soldiers and other security forces for their work in the ongoing operations and tasked them with maintaining the momentum to bring calm to the area, the source added.
