Kingsley Okonkwo, better known by his stage name Kcee, a Nigerian artist, claims that his collaborative gospel record, “Cultural Praise,” with the Okwesili Eze Group, brought him more money than his whole career in secular music.
The singer of “Limpopo” revealed this in a recent interview with Lagos’ Cool FM.
He claims that many people believed that switching to gospel music would spell the end of his career, but it really led to enormous success.
“When I did the gospel [album], a lot of people were like, ‘It’s over, he’s actually going close to his village,'” Kcee recalled. He is currently bringing the music to the village.
“That was awful. I thought, “Okay, let’s see how that works” when I first heard that. And it never took place. With the gospel CD, I made more money than I ever had in my whole career.
Before the album was even released, the singer admitted, he already knew it would be a commercial success.
