The Labour Party group led by Lamidi Apapa has suspended 12 members for suspected anti-party conduct. Kenneth Okonkwo, a veteran Nollywood actor who was a spokesperson for the Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Council, is among those suspended. He resigned from the All Progressive Congress (APC) prior to the presidential elections.
Comrade Obiora Ifo, the Acting National Publicity Secretary, has also been suspended.
Their suspension was announced in a communiqué published at the conclusion of the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Bauchi State yesterday.
“That the NEC in session also considers the action of 12 of its members, namely Obiora Ifo, Kenneth Okonkwo, Mrs. Adebayo Ekong, Com. P.G. Igene, Adeola Adebanjo, Funke Awolowo, Sam Okpala, Folusho considers Olakemi, Olubunmi Adesanya, Lanre Adenuga, and Olatubosun Oswald, “As a result, the NEC in session suspends them from the party.
“As a result, the NEC in session suspends them from the party.” It also suspends all National Working Committee (NWC) members, state chairmen, and secretaries who participated in the illegal NEC meeting convened by Barr Julius Abure on April 18, in Asaba, Delta State, for contempt of the FCT High Court restraining order and recommends disciplinary action and investigation for fraudulent and anti-party activities in their conduct of the April 15 governorship primaries in Imo, Bayelsa, and Kogi states, as directed by Julius. The state chairmen and secretaries that attended that unlawful NEC are Prince Kenedy Ahanotu, Mrs. Ladi Illiya, Dr. Ayo Olorunfemi, Chief Innocent Agumba, and Mrs. Dudu Manuga.
“The NEC also investigated some of its members’ anti-party actions and concluded that the faction supports and upholds the decision of the Ogun State leadership, who had expelled several members for failing to pay membership dues for more than six months.”
