Grammy-winning singer Temilade Openiyi, better known by her stage as Tems, has named Asake, a fellow countrywoman, and Tyla, a singer from South Africa, as her current favorite African singer.
Tems recently gave a speech on the Time100 Next Gala red carpet in New York.
“Who are your favorite African artists right now?” the interviewer asked.
“My favorite African artists right now are Asake and Tyla,” Tems replied.
She was honored at the 2023 Time100 Next event as one of the honorees. A next-generation voice was given to her.
Not just the “Essence” crooner from Nigeria made the Time100 Next list for 2023. Wemimo Abbey, the founder of a tech company, and co-founder Samir Goel of a health start-up, Cityblock Health, both made the list with their venture, Esusu.
