For Premier League manager of the year, Pep Guardiola, Mikel Arteta, and Unai Emery have all received nominations. The shortlist for the prize includes 50% Spanish candidates.

Guardiola, the head coach of Manchester City, overcame an eight-point deficit created by Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal to win the Premier League for the fifth time in six years. However, the latter deserves a ton of praise for giving Arsenal a fighting chance at the crown for the first time in years.

Emery, a fellow Basque and former Arsenal manager, is also listed in acknowledgment of the manner he turned around Aston Villa, moving them from a precarious position to a contender for Europe. With 57 points, the Villans are only eight points behind Liverpool in fifth place.

The other candidates
Roberto De Zerbi of Brighton, Eddie Howe of Newcastle United, and Marco Silva of Fulham are also candidates for the Premier League manager of the year award.

Since taking over for Graham Potter, De Zerbi has won praise for the flair he has brought to the Sussex team and is helping the Seagulls have one of their greatest seasons ever. His team will face Howe’s Newcastle, who are attempting to make the Champions League for the first time in 20 years, on Thursday night.

Meanwhile, freshly promoted Fulham is now in the top half of the table under Marco Silva. One of the season’s biggest surprises has been the Portuguese coach’s team.

Who makes the selection for Premier League manager of the year?
