Speaker Tajudeen Abbas (PhD) has condemned the Friday flood that wreaked havoc on the Trademore Estate in Lugbe, Abuja and destroyed millions of dollars’ worth of property.
The Speaker expressed her sadness that people going about their daily lives with their families may encounter such challenging circumstances.
The House had urged relevant authorities and Nigerians to take action to lessen the impact of floods in the nation as anticipated by government agencies while conducting its first session following the start of the 10th Assembly.

However, on Friday, the Trademore estate in the Lugbe region was under water.
The Speaker expressed sympathy to the Estate’s inhabitants for the terrible tragedy.

He remembered that prior to the rainy season, the appropriate government authorities had warned the people about the potential for flooding in several areas of the nation, stressing that such warnings should be heeded.

To prevent a repeat of the tragedy, Speaker Abbas urged the authorities to take swift action.

He emphasized how important it is for people to take all required precautions to stay away from flood-prone locations.
According to the FCT Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), 116 people were impacted by the water on Friday.
